Report & Donate

If you find milfoil on the lake, please be sure to send an email to slamilfoil@gmail.com with the exact location of the area so we can be sure to mark it with a ball & have our diver pick it! We want to prevent the spread of milfoil as much as we can!

If you would like to donate money towards the stop of milfoil, please email suncooklakeassociation@gmail.com.

2024 Milfoil Update

The 2024 season of milfoil extraction has begun!

Diver Dave has extracted approximately 615 gallons of milfoil from Suncook Lake as of the end of June. This has surpassed what we collected in milfoil from our lakes last year.

We had a treatment on the Lower Lake this summer, in 4 areas, on September 4.

Milfoil Treatments

We are scheduled to have a treatment this summer on Lower Suncook Lake in 4 areas. We have yet to have a date confirmed by the state.

In July 2020, the Upper Lake received a treatment that was a success!

The treatment was done in front of Camp Fatima, 4th cove as well as at the head of the river.

In July 2019, 6 acres on the Lower Lake were treated & we have yet to find milfoil in those areas!

Milfoil Education

Milfoil is an invasive weed that if not kept under control, will overtake the lake.

In order to keep it under control, it must be either picked from the root of the plant or with a treatment in the lake.

Milfoil is easily transported from lake to lake on boats and trailers. If you are putting in or taking out your boat, be sure to do a full inspection of your boat and trailer to ensure you are not transporting any milfoil into the lake. Pieces of the milfoil can also be chopped up by a motor of a boat going by causing the plant to reroot elsewhere.

Milfoil is marked on Suncook Lake by yellow balls. The balls are dropped right on top of where the milfoil is growing and can be found on both Upper & Lower Lake, usually in shallower areas. It is VITAL you stay clear of these yellow balls as the milfoil may have grown to the water level and driving near it can cause it to cut and reroot elsewhere.

Surveying for milfoil is how we spot the milfoil. Going out first thing in the morning on a sunny day when it is calm, you are able to see the bottom of the lake and spot the milfoil. Surveying is vital to the success of getting milfoil under control; if we don't know where it is, we can't treat it.

SLA has its own Milfoil boat that goes out during the week starting the end of May until mid-September. Volunteers man the boat and assist the trained Milfoil Diver as well as help survey.
